Stoney Creek and the Iron Horse

Our 1:87 scale display of Stoney Creek based on the H.G. & B. R. (c.1910), now covering from Bartonville to Winona with models of historical buildings in west Saltfleet, Olde Town Stoney Creek, Fruitland, and Winona

The From Saltfleet to Stoney Creek historical photo display and database, complementing the model, has been moved to the fieldstone basement of the Lee home. 

Tweedside: A Vanished Village

An exhibit memorializing the historic village of Tweedside, centring on the time capsule from 1897 found under the now-demolished Tweedside Church

Lee's Life in Fashion

Displaying artefacts from the museum, this exhibit contains  nineteenth and early twentieth century clothing and accessories from the time of Erland and Janet Lee.

110 Years+ of WI History

The continuing story of the Women's Institutes from 1897 to the present

Field Trips and Education Programs

 

Looking for something different for your school class or youth group? The Erland Lee Museum offers five hands-on educational programs, tailored to the Ontario School Curriculum. Scouts, Brownies, and Guides all welcome!

2 hour program (tour, craft and additional activities)

Both indoor and outdoor facilities for 50 are available at no additional cost

 

 

Programs available

 

Education programs can be tailored to your group’s specific needs. Pre-booking is required.

 

All Year Programs

 

Pioneer Life: 2 hours – Participants will learn about the early Loyalist settlers in Stoney Creek, Ontario, and discover what life was like on an 1860’s dairy farm. Includes a pioneer-themed craft.

Ontario Curriculum Connections:

Grade 2: Heritage and Citizenship – Traditions and Celebrations

Grade 3: Heritage and Citizenship – Early Settlements in Upper Canada

 

Victorian Community in Canada: 2 hours – Introduces participants to the culture and customs of rural Victorian society in Canada. Participants can examine several artifacts from the 19th century, and will be encouraged to compare them to their modern equivalents. Includes a Victorian-themed craft.

Grade 2: Heritage and Citizenship – Traditions and Celebrations

Grade 3: Heritage and Citizenship – Early Settlements in Upper Canada

 

Canada and the Women’s Institutes: 2 hours – Participants will learn about the founding of the Women’s Institutes in 1897, a Canadian organization that has influenced and empowered women all over the world. They will also be introduced to a few of Hamilton’s outstanding citizens, like Erland Lee, Janet Lee, Adelaide Hoodless, and E.D. Smith

Ontario Curriculum Connections:

Grade 4: Canada and World Connections

Grade 5: Canada and World Connections – Aspects of Citizenship and Government, Women’s Empowerment

Grade 6: Canada and World Connections – International Organizations, outstanding Canadian citizens

 

Seasonal Programs

 

Remembrance Day (November): 2 hours – This program focuses on local contributions to the war effort during the First and Second World Wars, and helps participants understand the importance of Remembrance Day. The contributions of Stoney Creek soldiers, like Gordon Lee, and of the Women’s Institutes will be highlighted.

Grade 2: Heritage and Citizenship – Special Days

 

Victorian Christmas (December): 2 hours – Participants can see the Erland Lee Museum traditionally decorated for a Victorian Christmas. While learning about the history of Stoney Creek and the Women’s Institutes, participants will see first-hand how Christmas celebrations have changed since the 19th century.
