Ontario School Curriculum. Scouts, Brownies, and Guides all welcome!

All Year Programs
Pioneer Life: 2 hours – Participants
will learn about the early Loyalist settlers in Stoney Creek, Ontario, and
discover what life was like on an 1860’s dairy farm. Includes a
pioneer-themed craft.

Celebrations
Grade 3: Heritage and Citizenship – Early
Settlements in Upper Canada
Victorian Community in Canada: 2 hours
– Introduces participants to the culture and customs of rural Victorian
society in Canada. Participants can examine several artifacts from the 19th
century, and will be encouraged to compare them to their modern
equivalents. Includes a Victorian-themed craft.

Settlements in Upper Canada
Canada and the Women’s Institutes: 2
hours – Participants will learn about the founding of the Women’s
Institutes in 1897, a Canadian organization that has influenced and
empowered women all over the world. They will also be introduced to a few
of Hamilton’s outstanding citizens, like Erland Lee, Janet Lee, Adelaide
Hoodless, and E.D. Smith

Seasonal Programs
Remembrance Day (November): 2 hours –
This program focuses on local contributions to the war effort during the
First and Second World Wars, and helps participants understand the
importance of Remembrance Day. The contributions of Stoney Creek soldiers,
like Gordon Lee, and of the Women’s Institutes will be highlighted.

Grade 2: Heritage and Citizenship – Special Days
Victorian Christmas (December): 2 hours
– Participants can see the Erland Lee Museum traditionally decorated for a
Victorian Christmas. While learning about the history of Stoney Creek and
the Women’s Institutes, participants will see first-hand how Christmas
celebrations have changed since the 19th century.
